Correction: St. Paddy's in Lowell, MA

Beer Luvvas,

Well, after fighting traffic for 45min to get to Chelmsford so my colleague could call into a meeting from our hotel (with free wifi), we decided not to head back into the city to explore St. Patrick's Day in Boston.

Fortunately, there were half-a-dozen Irish Pubs in nearby Lowell for us to choose from.

Owen and Ollie's had a 2.5hr wait for a table. So I was unable to sample their Guinness Onion Soup.

The Dubliner - didn't even know about it until we got back to the hotel and our Best Western concierge mentioned...

We settled on The Old Court Irish Pub when we called and they said that 25% of their space was held for dining....

When we got there, we discovered that the tables in 25% of the bar were staffed by one server, and half of UMass, Lowell and Middlesex Community College were in attendance. That made for an excellent place for a pint of Guinness (served in a Murphy's plastic cup - gotta love St. Paddy's Party Cups) and a little people watching. During which time it became clear to me that as the token NWerner in the pub, I was the guy who sounded funny....

After our pint, we walked the streets to find some good eats - which we did - The Mambo Grill! College town led to college food - massive Mexican burritos and enchiladas, and a bottle of Sam Adams Winter Lager. When in Rome, drink what the local Romans developed to drive the expansion of the craft brewing industry, or so I say all the time....

Needless to say, a good time. Hopefully we'll be able to pull off a mini-Boston Pub Crawl tomorrow after our meeting, and before our flight leaves. Hoping to hit Cambridge Brewing and one of many Beer Works breweries in town...

If you are hitting Boston for St. Paddy's next year, check out The Boston Irish Pub Directory to find one near your suburb of choice...
