Had a covert work gossip meeting at the Cheerful Tortoise this afternoon where I was able to sample 10 Barrel Brewing's Apocalypse IPA. Definitely meets the criteria of a NW IPA!
A not-to-be-named coworkers wife was quaffing Bridgeport's ubiquitous IPA, and the Apocalypse was definitely a shade or three darker in the amber spectrum. I'm shocked from their website that the combination of Horizon, Centennial, Amarillo and Cascade hops would only eek out 65 paltry IBUs. But the balance in this brew is exquisite!
I highly recommend heading to the Cheerful Turtle for a pint, or a pitcher!, before they blow the keg.
PS - if you haven't yet tasted their S1nist0r Black Ale, you are definitely missing out!
Prost to 10 Barrel Brewing! Deschutes and Bend Brewing have a new feisty companion/competitor in Bend, OR!
