Beer Luvvas,
Before heading out to the Zoo Brew, I stopped in at one of my favorite Portland Beer Locations: HairM for a pint of Drifter, hair cut and scalp massage....Ahhhhhhhhhh. I do love the scalp massage.
After de-shagging, I still had a couple hours to kill before the Zoo Brew 5pm kick off, and neither Bailey's Tap room, nor Tugboat Brewing opens before 4pm. So, I decided to jump on the MAX and head toward PGE Park (en route to the Zoo from downtown), and check out The Agency where Freebird and friends had a Ninkasi breakfast before attending March Madness a few months ago.
The Ultra Sport Lounge was dead. Nobody. Zero. Zip. Nada. Which left me the pick of the few tables out on their 'patio' - technically a large sidewalk between Burnside and Morrison. It looked like a great place to see, be seen, dine and enjoy a pint or two...but at $6/pint. I think the tab will be long even if the night is short. I did enjoy a Ninkasi IPA on the patio with a great view of the front of PGE Park. But alas, my time was short and there was another stop between PGE Park and the Zoo....
The Goose Hollow Inn! A Portland icon, still owned by former Mayor/flasher Bud Clark. This place was happening! There was no room for me on the Inn's patio so I duck, duck, goosed inside for my beverage of choice....Now, unlike The Agency, Goose Hollow was packed to the brim....with the almost dead. I can't remember the last time I walked into a bar and visibly dropped the average age in the place. I think the only guy younger than I was, was nuking nachos behind the bar....
But don't get me wrong, this was no geriatric convention. The energy from this sixty something crowd was contagious like crabs on a toilet seat! I bellied up to the bar and found that they were pouring a new tap from Fort George Brewery named - Goose Hollow Golden brewed specifically for The Inn. I had to give this new quaff a try and was pleasantly surprised by the crisp refresher with just enough of a Belgian tinge for me to note it, but not to dislike it.
After finishing this pint, it was time to take the MAX one more stop to the Zoo and the 2009 Zoo Brew...check back for the Zoo Brew Review!
Prost to Pub Crawls! Prost to Portland! Whoop! Whoop!
