Beer Luvvas,
I received my first shipment from the Microbrewed Beer of the Month Club, and took a few bottles with me to the Oregon Coast to taste last weekend.
I remembered correctly that I'd receive a sixer each from 2 different brewers from somewhere within these here United States of America, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found that each sixer was comprised of 2 threesomes of 2 different beers from each brewery! Sweet!
I'll start with the two from Grand Teton Brewing Company in Victor, Idaho. Old Faithful Ale is the top-selling beer in Yellowstone National Park - who says marketing means nothing. This pale golden ale was very light (as expected) and paired very well with Freebird's homemade guacamole. It would have been even better if the day was sunny and I had my toes in the sand. Unfortunately it was the Oregon Coast, and we were drying off from our walk down the beach earlier.
Teton Amber Ale - the brewery's namesake - is definitely maltier than the pale but not as powerful as what I've come to expect from the Portalnd Ambers - Drop Top, Ropewalk. I found it another smooth drinker for an afternoon on the couch, although it has recently received a Silver Medal from the North American Association of Brewers (08).
My second set of brews made the trek clear across country from Cape Ann Brewing Co. in Gloucester, Mass. The first brew I sampled was Fisherman's Ale. An 07 Gold Medal Winner from the Great International Beer Festival, this Kolsh style ale was another light, easy sipper. I guess it's that time of year around the country to roll out the summer sippers. Not my fav, but pass another quac filled chip, and the two are smashing together!
Fisherman's IPA was my favorite (duh!) from this first shipment. Although not in the NW, over-hopped, style, this IPA kept its aromas and flaavas just beneath the surface like that wiley fish who never gets caught. However, the additional IBUs (64) were very satisfying.
Overall, I'm very happy with the first shipment. If this is all intriguing, the link is in the upper right hand corner, and there are some special deals for Mother's Day - doesn't your Mom want a beer of the month club??....for you??
