I'm officially changing the name of Laurelwood's Hop Monkey to Hangover Monkey. After sharing my Deschutes growler of Red Chair IPA, and completing the head-to-head taste-off with Hop Monkey from his kegerator (and splitting a bottle of Abyss - it was a good night), I was not surprised by my less-than-stellar headache on Saturday morning. Nothing that a couple Advil couldn't handle.
However, Gooney was gracious enough to allow us to fill our then empty growler with Hop Monkey to take home with us for consumption on Saturday. So, I quaffed a couple pints over sushi (great taste combo with the Kiss of Fire Roll!), and Freebird and I had a mellow evening of "alone time," and called it a relatively early night (unfortunately w/o killing the growler).
Sunday morning my head was killing me! After only a couple pints! The only beers to treat me worse on such low volume have been Bridgeport Ropewalk and Widmer Drop Top - both unassuming ambers with little special character to prescribe such terrible hangovers.
I'm so confused....can anyone attribute a commonality to these three beers that would cause such an adverse reaction??
