Deschutes Portland Pub Growler

Beer Luvvas,

I just picked up my first Deschutes growler and I'm taking it home via streetcar and MAX. The looks of jealousy far out number the looks of disgust to date.

I'm really enjoying the cast aluminum handle while riding mass transit, but its a good thing that you get a half pint of your beer choice on the house while you wait cuz mt total was $40, including the 22oz Hop Henge ($5). I also tipped $2. Any comments on tipping when filling up one's growler?

I guess I'll have to recoup the high fixed cost with frequent lower cost refils. I didn't ask the $$ for refils. I'll update later.

On the MAX the growler became quite the conversation piece. I'll post a photo later.

Prost to a growler to go on Friday night!

I tip on filling a growler most times because it takes a little extra effort to fill one for the staff.
(not everybody has it down, some pour in mason jars only, because of foaming, Amnesia has it down, they insert a straw to the tap. Some let it settle in a oil can type container then fill both at same time. I just wish there would be one best method for all.)

I don't tip if I pay for a regular price beer while waiting for it to fill.

BTW- I'm jealous 'bout the growler, I almost got one the other day, way cool, but pricey!

Growler prices are a subject that I'm kind of obsessed with. The correct way to evaluate growler prices is to figure the six-pack equivalent price, since that's the other way you take beer home.

Deschutes' price to fill a growler is insane, especially when you can get a six pack of their beer for $8-$9.

I usually tip about $1 for a growler fill-up.
