Old Market Pub & Brewery: Multnomah Village Gem

Beer Luvvas,

Monday night was yet another night out catching up with friends, and yet another great brewpub in Beervana. This instance was at Old Market Pub & Brewery in Multnomah Village. A little known fact, this is the location where Freebird and I chose to have our pre-wedding, rehearsal dinner. The back room with your own dedicated server (if you book enough patrons) was very nice.

Old Market Pub is known for it's great food, and locally brewed beer. But it's most famous in our circle of friends as the location for Shuffleboard (Shufflepuck) for the Bi-annual Bar Olympics. I'll post more about Bar Olympics another time...

This time around, Freebird quaffed multiple pints of Mr. Toad's Wild Red (shocker!). I'll have to get her to post a comment to compare Mr. Toad to her other favorite red ales.

I started with their seasonal: a Maple, Vanilla Stout on Nitro! This stout was surprisingly sweet with more vanilla notes, than maple. It was a nice departure from my preferred Espresso/Oatmeal/Russian Imperial stouts, but too sweet for multiple pints.

Therefore I went to the other end of the spectrum for my second pint: Hop On, a British IPA. This IPA is definitely in the British tradition, not the Pacific NW tradition - aka, a mellow hopped IPA, rather than XTREMELY hopped. But after the sweetness of the Maple/Vanilla Stout, Hop On was a nice transition back to the bitter side of the spectrum.

I closed with a pint of the Rat Dog ESB. This beer is also brewed in the traditional English style, and therefore was not overly bitter. It's smooth with just enough malt action to keep the hop notes in check.

Yet another night on the town, yet another great local brew pub!

Prost to Old Market Pub & Brewery!
