Beer Luvvas,
I had an opportunity this weekend to taste Dogfish Head Brewing's Midas Touch Golden Elixir. This "brew" is described as not quite beer, not quite mead, not quite wine. I describe it as not quite good.
MCO (I happened to be back in Phoenix this weekend) likened the Midas Touch to a "couple of honeycombs dissolved in a flat Bud Light." I would only add that after dissolving the honeycomb, there would need to be a straining process to remove the particulate since the brew was as clear as a summer day....and that's where the positive notes will end.
Dogfish Head's website states that this recipe is the.....
actual oldest-known fermented beverage in the world! Our recipe showcases the known ingredients of barley, white Muscat grapes, honey & saffron found in the drinking vessels in King Midas' tomb! Somewhere between a beer, wine and mead, this smooth, dry ale will please with Chardonnay or I.P.A. drinker alike.
It may be said that progress has led to the deterioration of society, and specifically our morals. But it has led to much better beer.
Prost to progress!
