Beer Luvvas,
I spent yet another week in Hayward, CA; and I was able to experience yet another local brew pub: Buffalo Bill's Brewery!
My local coworkers described the joint as a place with great food, and passable beer. My experience was a bit more positive on the beer side.
I enjoyed their Johnny Midnight Oatmeal Stout, and my coworker Carl sampled the signature Buffalo Beer - a lager. I found the stout to be better than passable, due mostly to the Cascade dry hops, but I didn't discern the chocolate flavors referred to on their website. Carl asked for a beer that wasn't "over-hopped" as many NW styles beers are.... And he was pleased, but not blown over, by the Buffalo Beer. It is a light lager, so I wouldn't expect much out of it.
The food was quite good. My chicken/prosciutto wrap was well done, and Carl's tortilla soup smelled wonderful.
The odd item was the large police presence (2 patrol cars and 4 officers) milling around the movie theater across the street. It surprised me on a Thursday night, which was a great night to eat on the patio.
In the end, not as good as the Englander, but better than Jack's.
Prost to finding new brew locations while on business trips!
