Healthy Beer Brats?

Beer Luvvas,

I had a crazy idea after pondering what to do with the smattering of not-so-high-quality beer left in my fridge after hosting another fantasy football draft last week. (Side note: it looks like I'm going 2 & 1 in the first week of the season. Anyone else in a bit of a bind after Brady blew his knee in the first quarter? A big reason I'm not looking @ 3-0 in Week 1!)

Anyhoo....I had a bunch of Michelob Ultra & Ultra Amber to go along with a smattering of Bud, Miller Lite and other macro-swill. I figured that I'd drink the Ultra Amber, but the rest is not going to pass my lips (see if I had to drink lite beer forever). So last weekend I had some brats @ a fellow UW alum's house during the tragic pounding we received from UofO where he admitted that he used some macro-swill to boil the brats prior to grilling them. I thought that they tasted pretty damn good, as long as I brought my own beer to imbibe while consuming the brats.

I combined that experience with a previous couples dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Hobbit a few months back where he grilled multiple chicken brats and Italian sausages since Mr. Hobbit is successfully becoming a much thinner version of his former self; and decided to pick up some chicken brats/Italian sausages and boil them in the Michelob Ultra and have Ultra Healthy Beer Chicken Brats!

Well, NFL kickoff weekend seemed the right time to try it out. Fundamentally, the brats were tasty, and a fine deviation from the norm; but both Freebird and I believed that they lacked some richness relative to our standard Johnsville Alaskan Amber brats. And, I don't know how many calories, or fat grams were saved.

So - back to better brats from better beer!

Prost to the start of the NFL 2008 Season!
