Beer luvvas,
I'm ready to finish posting on the second half of my Farewell Phoenix Pub Crawl. When we last saw our heros; MCO, The Hobbit and I were just shaking off the uber-hoppiness of Moylan's Hopsickle Triple Imperial IPA, and getting ready to head off to our next stop...
Fourth Stop: Four Peaks Brewing Company
I had to acquiesce to include Four Peaks on The Crawl because I'm one of the few folks who live/have lived in Phoenix that don't believe they brew very good beer. However, MCO considers their Hop Knot IPA his favorite beer brewed in the state. Therefore I had to give it a go. Plus, since I wasn't driving I could enjoy a glass of their Hopsquatch Barleywine - the only 4 Peaks brew I enjoy.
How annoyed was I when we discovered that Hopsquatch wasn't available until Oct 1st?? What was a man to do?? When MCO & the Hobbit each ordered Hop Knot, our server asked, "Would you like a pitcher?" I sighed yes and an $11 pitcher of Hop Knot we had. But I was determined to open my mind before I opened my mouth, and I was shocked by the full hop flavor of this fine IPA!!
So I will admit to all my readers that I was wrong about Four Peaks, and I will add them to the list of the best places to get beer in Phoenix. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and at 6'8" 240, I qualify.
Fifth Stop: Tilted Kilt
Tilted Kilt was on the list just because it's better than Hooters. MCO enjoyed the Red Hook Longhammer IPA. The Hobbit barely touched his Sierra Nevada Pale Ale; and I quaffed the Sam Adams Oktoberfest. The Tuesday night talent pool wasn't that great, and there was no football on the big screens. Therefore The Kilt was just another bar with scantily clad women serving a decent selection of mass-market craft beer. But, go watch a Packer game there on Sundays!
Last Stop: San Tan Brewing
Unfortunately, our second round @ Papago made us late for happy hour at Fibber McGee's, so we skipped 'em and went straight to San Tan to close the crawl and have some dinner. MCO & I each ordered a pint of Hop Shock IPA, while the pint-sized Hobbit abstained due to the amount of alcohol already consumed overpowering his pint-sized self. We split a pizza of some BBQ flavor that wasn't my favorite San Tan food (stuffed burgers!), and then called it a night.
Again, thanks to The Hobbit for bailing out of work, and XTREME thanks to MCO for driving!
Prost to Pub Crawl!
