Downtown Portland Happy Hour: Henry's & Deschutes

Beer Luvvas,

I am happy as a drunken clam. The other day I met my buddy Mickle at Henry's for some Happy Hour brews, and what could be the best Happy Hour Menu in town!

I picked the $3 Avocado/Mango salad - which was much more salad than avocado/mango. Not quite the value of the $2 Caesar. Mickle went with the Ceasar and the Orange Chicken $3.

But the taplist is still what brings you to Henry's - or maybe the Cougar action if you're inclined for that type of entertainment. This outing I focused on brews that were not so conveniently located during my tenure in Arizona:

Laurelwood Organic Treehugger Porter: Ah, more robust than many porters that have the privilege of using less-than-organic ingredients. The fact that Laurelwood has been able to pull of this excellent organic quaff since before anyone not living in Eugene cared about organic ingredients!

Alameda Black Bear XX Stout (on nitro): Nitro Creamy Goodness! It's soooooo fine. Alameda's stout is another great not-available-elsewhere local brew, very balanced and roasty in malt flavor.

At this time I realized that I should have doubled up on the Happy Hour menu because I was still hungry, but it was after 6pm. So, Mickle and I ventured the 3 city blocks into The Pearl and stopped into Deschutes where we found that they already had Jubelale 08 on tap, and on Nitro!

So, a pitcher of Nitro 08 Jubelale was ordered, along with the cheese plate with came with a selection of local cheeses, along with fresh strawberries, blueberries, Granny Smith apple slices, and fresh peach slices! What a spread!

So, come on downtown to Henry's and Deschutes for great beer and great food!

Prost to being back home in Beervana!
