Beer Luvvas,
It's been quite hectic since returning from the 2008 Oregon Brewer's Festival. I hope to finish the reviews of the brews I found noteworthy this year. I believe we are still in the 'Ns'....
Ninkasi Brewing Total Domination IPA: If I recall correctly, this IPA was distinctive in that it had a very nice IPA twang even though it weighed in at a paltry (relatively speaking) 65 IBUs. Another solid brew from Ninkasi.
Oakshire Brewing Amber: This was a treat in that my little sister was pouring this gem on Thursday night! Not only was it a very solid quaff, but we got some great pours for our $1 tasters!
Old Market Pub & Brewery "Hopcask" Triple Tripel Organic: This was a very, very good Belgian Tripel. The fact that it was over-dry-hopped with three (thus triple) different hops added enough of the hop spice that I love in IPAs to make this Tripel a Belgian that I enjoyed to drink. Although I chose not to have another. It was still a Belgian.
Rogue Ales Glen: This was my "Best in Show" beer for 2008. Glen's hoppy notes on top of the big amber flavors made this strong ale one of the best strongs I've had the opportunity to enjoy. It's a shame that a) it was only brewed for OBF and barring a hidden keg in Newport, we'll never have a chance to taste it again, and b) this great brew is a commemoration of Glen Hay Falconer who has entered the clearing at the end of the path, and will no longer be able to bless us with his beers.
Russian River Brewing Co. Pliny the Elder: Superb. One of the best beers around. What else needs to be said about Pliny?
Sacramento Brewing Co. Red Horse Ale: Freebird's #2 (her #1 is here). I nice red and a bronze winner @ the 2008 World Beer Cup.
Surly Brewing Co Coffee Bender: This beer was my #2 for this year's OBF. The coffee notes in both aroma and flavor were exquisite. Another great flavored beer that brought what I was looking for but didn't overpower me with too much of a good thing.
Widmer Bros. Brewing Co. Full Nelson: This IPA was another that disappointed me. I expected an over-hopped version of Broken Halo, but I found the New Zealand hops fell short in the flavor category. The mouth feel was thick and creamy. Just not a good beer IMO.
And that will do it campers. Another OBF shot to shit. I definitely didn't taste all the brews, and only blogged about those that I can recall....ad, click, pls.....but it was again a grand time!
Prost to all the brewers at the 2008 Oregon Brewer's Festival! See y'all next year!
