Phoenix Farewell Beer Tour Part I: Papago Brewing

Beer Luvvas,

Yes, you read correctly. This post will be my first in a series of my Phoenix Farewell Beer Tour! I have accepted a position with a new company that is enabling Freebird and I to return to Portland, OR - Beervana!!! Needless to say, we are stoked.

Last night was my first going away 'event' - dinner with Mr. & Mrs. MCO at Richardson's (best New Mexican food in Phoenix!), but not before we knocked a few back @ Papago Brewing along with an order of Beer Bites.

Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale: This fresh hop ale was surprisingly malty, but was also very refreshing as my opening quaff. MCO felt their was too much malt, but this is not the first beer where MCO and I did not share the same opinion.

Avery Hog Heaven '05 Barleywine: This beer is a great example as to why aging beer is becoming more popular. There aren't enough o's in smooooooooooth to describe this barleywine. The higher alcohol content went unnoticed until it became time to order the next beer, after the next beer.

Or maybe it hit me because the next beer was an old stand-by: Stone Arrogant Bastard. Nuff said. So happy to quaff a pint on tap. Soooo happy!

The best part is that MCO and I began planning one (or two) Farewell Pub Crawls which should be executed over the next couple weeks. In addition, I have two separate work send offs scheduld for next week, which will of course take place where I can quaff a pint or four (hopefully on the company dime one last time).

Prost to returning home to Portland!

I have to read in your beer blog that you found a different job and are moving back... :-(

Congrats!
