Sorry for the lack of posts during this year's OBF, but my plan of borrowing SQ Hub's iPhone @ the fest fell through when SQ Hub & his iPhone remained in Seattle. Freebird and I are beginning the post-fest 'dry out' period in lovely PDX Airport, and we are forgoing all of the pubs in the joint (Laurelwood, Rouge, Widmer, Portland Brewing). It's been a heavy drinking weekend.
However, I'd like to quickly post the positive notes of the economic recovery of the USA that I've observed at this year's OBF.
- The Surprise Brewery in Attendance: Electric Brewing from Bisbee, AZ! If you'll recall a previous post regarding the well publicized hops shortage, Electric Brewing had announced that they may go under due to their inability to get hops. Well, they were at OBF which meant they had enough hops to brew enough beer to qualify (and then sell @ a pre-negotiated price) to attend the event again this year.
- PDX Made in Oregon Store is sold out (almost) of bottled Oregon beers as of 6:25pm July 27th! Now, not only does that imply that many of the expected 60,000 attendees of this year's festival battled the high jet fuel prices, and diminished airline service to travel to this year's 21st Annual event; but it also implies that they liked many Oregon beers and did just what Freebird and I did while not at OBF - filled up the bars, restaurants and pubs and quaffed many a pint of great Oregon Beer! So much so that they all had to take a bottle, or two, or six home with them to wherever they came from!!
I'll post more about our OBF experience over the next few days. Needless to say, it was another great year.
Prost to the end of the potential/so-called recession! Prost to OBF 2008!
