Michigan Beer Tour: Part I

Beer Luvvas,

Greetings from Michigan! The temps are topping out in the 80s, humidity is relatively low - for the Midwest - and the lows could drop into the 50s tonight! Needless to say, Freebird and I are happy campers to get out of PHellX for a while.

On the way into town last night, we picked up some local Michigan brewed craft beers to enjoy with "The In-Laws" over the next few days. So far, we've got one winner, and one that will be used for Beer Brats later this week.

The Winner: New Holland Brewing Mad Hatter IPA

Located in Holland, Michigan, New Holland Brewing has been brewing craft beers since 1997 and recently completed a 50 barrel brewhouse in January '08. The Mad Hatter IPA was a pleasant quaff with very powerful floral aromas that betrayed the mild hop-character flavor of the beer itself (aka smelled XTREME, but tasted mild). This is a great beer for drinking on the patio, with food, or late into the evening catching up with your Father-In-Law about The Market, Being Retired, etc.

The Beer Brat Bath Beer: Arbor Brewing Brasserie Blonde Sparkling Ale

Now, had we known that Arbor Brewing's website classified Brasserie Blond as a BELGIAN-Style Blonde, we probably wouldn't have purchased this particular flavor since neither Freebird, nor I, are fans of the Belgian style. That said, Brasserie Blonde is a fairly mild Belgian and I expect the beer brats later this week to be quite tasty.

Next up, Arbor Brewing's Sacred Cow IPA. Til then...

Prost to Michigan Craft Brewers!
