Beer Luvvas,
Sorry it's been awhile since I've last posted, but this whole work all week and re-rock/re-paint the house on the weekends is having an impact on my ability to post about the beers I've been consuming. And after moving 13 tons of rock, and painting all day when the temps are above 100 degrees, I've had more than a couple brews over the last few weeks.
Last night, The Hobbit's two bands (East Delta and Tone Cast) were playing back-two-back gigs @ a Scottsdale dive bar (Marti Gras), which just happens to be down the road from Papago! How nice! MCO volunteered to drive so all I had to worry about was which of Papago's vast selection was I going to enjoy!
MCO implored me as a designated drinker to start with the Bigfoot Barleywine from Sierra Nevada, and I obliged! It was quite tasty, and the AC was cranked so it wasn't overly powerful on another 100+ degree day in Phoenix.
My next quaff was one for the ages! The Lagunitas Maximus Imperial IPA has to be the smoothest, non-hop-bitter, but XTREME hop-floral, character beer I've ever consumed! This was an amazing beer. It went down smooth and easy like a summer beer should, but the floral hop notes were consistent, and abundant, throughout the pint.
It was so good, Freebird and I made a trip to BevMo! today in hopes that they had it. And they did, which is nice. Although I'm skeptical that this sixer will taste as good as the draft since I previously reviewed Maximus 22oz bomber, and was not as impressed as I was at Papago last night. Just goes to show that having a good local is a must. Sometimes beers loose the ju-nu-se-qua in the bottle.
I closed the Papago session with a pint of Inversion. And then we were off to the Yard House for a full meal. Yes, that is another 1-2 Punch of my top two places to get beer in Phoenix!
At the Yard, I enjoyed a pint of West Coast IPA to accompany my Pepper Jack, Green Chilli Burger (mmmm, green chilli). At that point I needed to slow it down so I could enjoy both sets after painting all day.
Prost to Lagunitas Maximus, East Delta and Tone Cast! I fine way to spend an evening!
