Hopworks Urban Blight?

Beer Luvvas,

I have seen multiple blogs from Beervana and Dr. Wort stating not so positive things about Portland's latest brew pub. I for one, cannot comment because the one time that I had an opportunity to try out this new pub experience, I ended up not moving beyond the front door.

I had a last minute trip to Portland a few weeks ago, and surprised my father with a phone call to meet me at Hopworks for a couple pints and a bite to eat. We arrived ~7pm on a Friday night and grabbed the last two parking spots available, only after tailing a couple leaving said establishment.

When we got to the front door, the place was packed - and not in a good way. We could barely get in through the front door to find out from the hostess that the next available table was over an hour and 45 min away! A quick head turn to our left verified that the bar was standing room only, if that. So we left.

Has anyone had a positive experience at Hopworks??

Prost to you, only if you leave a comment about your experience!

Yeah, I like Hopworks quite a bit. The IPA is a new PDX classic -- if you like grassy hops -- and I like the doppelbock and the stout a lot. The Belgian is awesome. Here's my take.

It has been really crowded, but the staff has held up well considering they've been body-slammed every day since it opened. If you don't like crowds, they'll fill your growler for $10 ($12 for the Belgian).
