Germany located in South Lake Union

Beer Luvvas,

Yesterday SQHub and I travelled to Germany via a short drive down I-5 (it was Sunday) to South Lake Union. We chose to spend our afternoon of beer drinking at Feierabend, a new German restaurant/pub a few blocks North of the REI Flagship store with the largest selection of imported German beers on tap (18) on the West Coast.

Feierabend is a gem! We sampled three different brews over lunch and all were chips off the old German block. The Kostritzer Black Lager was the least appealing of the three. Although described as a light coffee lager, SQHub and I agreed that it was too light - even for drinking in the sun on the patio (yes, another sunny Seattle day!). The Kostritzer needed more flavor.

Next up, Hacker-Pschorr Alt Munich was a very palatable Alt-style lager, but again nothing really to write home about. It was smooth, it was malty, but as Dr. Evil would say, "Pretty standard really."

Now we've reached the beer of the day, and possibly the best beer of the weekend! The big surprise? This German beer wasn't brewed in Germany!!! And the winner is, Baron Schwarzbier from Seattle's own Baron Brewing!!! This beer had the roasted malt and coffee flavors SQHub and I were expecting. Yet, it was still very easy-drinking in the warm Seattle sun. Baron only brews German-style beers, and the owners are well educated in the history of German Brewing, so check them out as well!

Well campers, another long beer-drinking weekend has about reached it's zenith. I return to the desert later today.

Prost to SQHub and the Seattle Beer Scene! A good time was had by all!
