More Bad Arizona Beer News: Hop Shortage Closes Electric Brewing

Beer Luvvas,

It goes from bad to worse. SanTan Brewing owner Anthony Canecchia was interviewed on Phoenix 12 News this afternoon talking about his concerns about SanTan's viability given the hops shortage. "I couldn't have picked a worse time to go into business."

Four Peaks raised prices $0.25/pint, and changed their recipes, according to PHX 12 News. Maybe I'll find their beers more appealing, but I doubt it.

And to top it off, Bisbee, AZ brewpub Electric Brewing closed it's doors in November due to the scarcity and cost of ingredients.

12 News reports that the situation probably won't get better until 2011, which jives with a comment from a reader of my previous post stating that new hops plantings won't yield until the third year of growth.

Yikes! What is a beer luvva to do?

Prost to 2007 - Hops & Barley's Summer of IPAs! Glad I had 'em when I could get 'em!
