Blind Taste Test - 0-2

Good Day Beer Luvvas!!!

Quick post today highlighting how poor my taste buds are at identifying EXACTLY what I'm drinking....

Free Bird's parents and our nephew are still in town, and last night we sat around another Java Log and enjoyed a few bottles o' brew in the still quite cool PHX evening. My wife - lovely thing that she is - brought me a beer from the fridge in a zip-up bottle koozie that covered all label markings. I thought it would be fun to try to guess the beer that she brought me - from my own fridge, where I had stocked all the beer personally, so I know what limited brews I should choose from....

Well, I thought the nose was a little like a lager and the flavor was slightly stronger than a lager, but not overly so, so I guessed it was one of the remaining Full Sail LTD Lagers....(insert buzzer noise here) INCORRECT! It was Full Sail's classic Amber - one of the first from this great Hood River, OR brewery to be distributed across the country.

Later in the evening, my father-in-law offered to bring another brew and I thought I'd give the Guess the Brew Game another shot. Another zipped up bottle koozie covered everything except the screw-top...again the sniff - this time nothing came to mind...another taste....hmmm what is that distinctive flavor, a little hops??? So I went with one of the last Mendocino Blue Heron IPAs......(insert bigger buzzer noise here)....Hornswaggled by the Amber again!!!

I suck! However, I am a glutton for punishment so I offered to give it a third try. Luckily for me the last beer of the evening had a neck lable poking it's wee collar out of the top of the zipped koozie. It said Inversion.....which I'm sure I would have guessed from it's not quite XTREME! hop flavor......Yeah, sure!

Prost to knowing good beer from bad, but not knowing good from good!

Cheers!
