Good Evening Beer Drinkers!!!!
Tonight Free Bird and I spent some time embibing w/close friends Tom & Elise! We sampled some Cindercone Red (discussed in Free Bird's last post), and another favorite from Full Sail Brewing - the Rip Curl - a light and refreshing brew, great for tipping back on the patio after sunset when the temp moves from the 80s to the 60s as it does in PHX in March (at least this year).
But the subject of this evening's post is not the Rip Curl, or Cindercone, it's the Medina for all beer drinkers (to go w/the Mecca of your favorite brew pub destination - for me PDX of course!) - BevMo! For the uninitiated, Beverages and More (aka BevMo) is a retail outlet focused solely on the sale of beverages (mostly alcoholic in nature) and the supporting foods that go with them - salty snacks for beer, fine cheeses for wine & various mixers for the spirits of various grains.
Upon returning from my PDX, Seattle, PDX trip, it was discovered that the cupboard was almost bare - all beers were currently in the fridge, and we were scheduled to attend a function this evening to celebrate a quick return trip from our recently departed friends Tom & Elise (to Boulder, CO - hoping to get Tom on the blog list for some CO representation) - and we needed to bring beer. Thus one of our monthly trips to BevMo commenced prior to heading to the par-tay.
The BevMo in PHX (off Ray @ the I-10, NW corner) has an excellent wine selection, but only dedicates one aisle to beer of both the micro & macro variety - unlike the BevMo in San Jose (Big G - help me w/the location next to your pad) where there were 3 whole aisles, one of which was dedicated to German beers w/the ever loved mini-keg! However, for my purposes there was plenty to choose from.
Free Bird and I filled up the cart w/selections from Deschuttes, Full Sail, Mendocino, Red Hook and Pyramid Breweries. I expect to post on most - if not all - over the next few days. All for about A buck a beer - which is cheaper than can be had if they were bought @ the breweries themselves! I passed on some of my darker favorites, because it's already reaching toward the 90s here in PHX, and I don't want to have a sixer of heavy stout or porter stuck in the fridge all summer like I did last year. So it's the beginning of IPA season. The Pyramid Thunderhead IPA was a light, and easy drinking IPA. No Bitter Beer Face to be had - even if consumed a little on the warm side - which is good since unless you're in a pound off, beer tends to get a little warm before 12oz are consumed in the height of PHX summer.
Well, the ASG/Free Bird family pooch - Rocket - is being a little needy so I'm going to make this a quick post and take him on a W-A-L-K. And then have a beer!
It's after 5 in PHX!!! Cheers & good night!

Nice Mecca/Medina reference. Ironic since Islam is not known for its apprecitation of beer, but good reference nonetheless
