Yes beer luvvas, I am ready to lay claim to Hops & Barley Blog's #1 Brewpub in the great (maybe) city of Phoenix, AZ and it's (eternal) surrounding suburbs.
Are you wating with baited breath? If so, what are you bating your breath with??
Papago Brewing in Scottsdale, AZ!!! We have a winna!!
From their website "A 30 tap bar where the line-up changes daily plus a beer engine for cask conditioned ales; showcasing the Southwest and serving the finest microbrews as well as great classic beers from around the world." All this is true! I enjoyed a pint of Stone's Arrogant Bastard, followed by Papago's own Hopfather IPA on Cask. Freebird enjoyed a bottle of her favorite Rogue Red, while the Mighty Jeffron polished off a 22oz Bear Republic Hop Rod - XTREME! IPA that it is. Our expanded drinking circle compadres the Caggiano's each enjoyed a different bottled selection from Anderson Valley Brewing; while Mrs. Mighty Jeffron polished off a couple pints of Deschutes Inversion IPA.
Now, remember that Popago earned the #1 Brewpub in PHX label from Hops and Barley Blog due to it's extensive beer selection, and definitely not due to it's pub grub. I'd avoid everything except the beer bites - which are quite good!
Be sure to check out their website - they update what's on tap daily! And remember that after May 1st, Popago will be smoke-free - yeah for Scottsdale draconian smoking bans!
Enjoy Beer Luvvas! Prost to a good brew pub in PHX!!!

PDX transplant from PHX here: Papago definitely has the best guest taps in the valley but if you haven't been to Four Peaks in Tempe (8th St between Rural & McClintock), go!!! Sonora Brewhouse on 3rd St. & Camelback is also a good one. And I concur, Beaver Street in Flag definitely has some good brews and I miss their fondue.
PHX transplant from PDX: Papago is great as far as guest taps go but if you haven't been to Four Peaks (8th St. between Rural & McClintock in Tempe), go!! Sonora on Camelback & 3rd St. is also good. And I have to agree w/ Beaver Street in Flagstaff especially if you get the fondue to go with your brews. :)
